How far can you go?

John MacLean speaking to CCGS Senior Students about his life journey

When John MacLean was hit by an 8-tonne truck in 1988 as he rode his bike his whole life changed. The impact resulted in John suffering multiple breaks to his pelvis and back, a fractured sternum, punctured lungs, and a broken arm, and left John a paraplegic.

Through astonishing courage and determination, he went on to become the first wheelchair athlete to finish the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon and swim the English Channel, as well as compete in multiple Paralympic Games. And now, with the aid of carbon fibre leg braces, he is learning to walk again.

Speaking with tremendous gratitude to our senior students, John spoke about how everyone falls down but despite the setbacks you can get back up and see the possibilities.
